The Riv! Tiger Woods and the PGA Tour will tee it up at Riviera Country Club this week, which is considered probably the best course on the regular PGA Tour rotation. Woods will be making his second start of 2019 and just his second start at Riviera in the last decade.

He won't be alone, though. Woods will be joined by Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and three-time champ Bubba Watson in what should be the event of the year to this point.

If you need to get caught up on your Riviera architecture, you should check out Andy Johnson's work at the Fried Egg. It's worth digging into as this course is always one of the biggest stars of the week. It will have competition this week (see above), and I'm looking forward to the golf event of 2019 (to date) as the PGA Tour wraps in California and moves on to Florida and toward the first major of the season.

Here's a look at the schedule of events so you can watch all the action.

You can follow our live leaderboard for the Genesis Open here when the tournament begins Thursday. Here is everything to know about the Genesis Open, including Woods’ tee times, a round-by-round TV schedule and how to live stream the tournament.

Despite Woods’ career struggles at Riviera, the Genesis Open is run by his charity — called the TGR Foundation — which is part of the reason why he plays in it every year. The winner will take home $7,400,000, the second-largest purse thus far on the PGA Tour schedule. Defending champion Bubba Watson, who has won the tournament three times, will join Woods among the notable names in the field, which also includes Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson.

Stars and superstars have aligned themselves this week at Riviera Country Club for the 2019 Genesis Open. It is one of the best early events of the golf year and probably the event of the first two months of play on the PGA Tour. Evidence of that lies in the strength of field.

Tiger Woods is (obviously) the biggest draw, and his threesome of Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy could not have more punch if Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable and Dean Martin were paired together. That’s not the only big time grouping, though, as the first 36 holes will be rife with trios of big name players.

Joining the Woods triumvirate is the big hitting group of Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson and Cameron Champ. Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth and Xander Schauffele will also have a monster following this weekend. All of those groupings make up this week’s featured groups, which you can watch on PGA Tour Live. Here’s a look at those featured groups and some other key tee times. PGA Tour makes the last stop of its annual West Coast Swing this week at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Ca., for the Genesis Open, hosted by the Tiger Woods foundation. Woods will be back in action this week, making his first start since Torrey Pines. Riviera holds special meaning for Woods as the site of his first career start on the PGA Tour in 1992, when he missed the cut as a 16-year-old high school sophomore. He’s played Riviera numerous times since, but, amazingly, none of his 14 wins in the state of California have come in the event. Though he has come close over the years, finishing runner-up twice (1998, 1999), T-5 in 2003 and T-7 in 2004. Last year, in his first start at Riviera since 2006, Woods missed the cut.

Paul Casey was unable to close out Phil Mickelson after entering the final round with a three-shot lead. Brandon Harkins worked his way into a top 20 before letting it slip on the back nine Sunday and my favorite bet was a small loser as Branden Grace tied Ernie Els, resulting in a dead heat at -135. At least Casey provided a decent hedge opportunity, going off as low as -170 before the final round, so hopefully a few of you found a way to lock in a profit. The weather also caused problems for three days and that resulted in a Monday finish, just another reason to remember to keep the exposure smaller than normal for that particular event.Fortunately, we’re out of what I consider the toughest four-week stretch on the PGA Tour from a handicapping perspective. There were two pro-ams, three tournaments playing on multiple courses, and the one tournament that had a normal set up was played in front of 200,000 people in Phoenix.Things get back to normal this weekend with The Genesis Open, a more traditional event at Riviera Golf Course in Los Angeles, Calif. Bubba Watson has won three of the last six, Dustin Johnson has a win here along with a couple runner-up finishes and the Pebble Beach champ Mickelson has won here twice. But we also get longshots out of nowhere like James Hahn and John Merrick. There’s also some correlation to Augusta as eight of the past 16 winners also claimed a green jacket during their career. This year, he looks to make the weekend alongside the same duo he played with here in 2018, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. The super group tees off on Thursday at 3:22 p.m. ET, and they all hope to get off to a better start than they did last year, when they combined to shoot one under par as a trio in the opening round. McIlroy grabbed headlines that week for his comments the craziness of a Tiger crowd, something he’ll be dealing with again on Thursday and Friday this week.Other marquee names in the field include Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth. Bubba Watson, who has won this event three times in the last five years, will also tee it up alongside Dustin Johnson, who won here in 2017.
